High-tech for added safety
The latest generation of Bamboo TwinFlex® technology
uvex safety gloves boost cut protection to the next level. The comfort class together with cut protection helps increase wearer acceptance – particularly when carrying out demanding activities. The unique combination of natural bamboo and high-tech protective fibres ensures a high level of wearer comfort and good climate control while also providing effective protection. After all, a safety glove can only help to prevent accidents and protect the hand if the user actually wears it.
Comfort function: Silky, comfortable bamboo yarn for a soft feel and perfect climate control combined with innovative DSM Dyneema® Diamond fibres provides a further significant boost to tear and cut resistance.
Innovation for added precision
DSM Dyneema® Diamond technology
Thanks to innovative DSM Dyneema® Diamond fibres with integrated microparticles, we’ve been able to create a significantly thinner and more touchsensitive cut protection safety glove. 2 DSM Dyneema® Diamond is a registered trademark of Royal DSM N.V. uvex combines this high-performance fibre with comfortable elastane fibres to produce a lightweight cut protection safety glove (level C) with outstanding tactile feel.

Effective hand protection means striking the perfect balance between reliable protection and a comfortable fit – only safety gloves that are worn can fulfill their purpose. uvex is continuously developing innovative fibre and coating technologies such as the patented Bamboo TwinFlex® technology to deliver both wearer requirements.
For everyday use, the balance of cut and tear resistance properties is critical. The required level of cut protection is achieved through a high concentration of glass fibres, however, this could result in the tear resistance being compromised. The techniques used by uvex to combine materials such as glass or steel fibres, are key to achieving this balancing act and delivering wearer comfort and acceptance, as skin should only come into contact with fibres that are non-irritating.
Features such as fit and dexterity change yet again when coatings are applied which are equally important and needed to obtain high levels of durability and ensure cost effectiveness.

Cut protection reclassified
Modification to the EN 388 standard for cut protection gloves
Protection classes for cut protection gloves were previously assigned in Europe in accordance with standard EN 388:2003. Due to the continuous development of technical materials – so-called ‘high-performance fibres’ – it has become necessary to adjust the methods used to test and classify cut protective gloves. These changes have been implemented in standard EN 388:2016. In addition to the coup-test in accordance with EN 388:2003 the new test method in accordance to ISO 13997 has been introduced.
Changes to the EN 388 standard explained in the video
Test procedure in accordance with EN 388:2003
Cut resistance test using the coup test.
Rotating circular knife moves back and forth at a constant force (5 newtons) on the test material and rotates counter to the movement.
The index value results from the number of cycles required to the point at which the test piece is cut through, and from the degree of wear of the blade.
Five measurements are performed in this way on each test piece. The average of the five index values confirms the corresponding performance class for the cut protection level of a safety glove.
Test procedure in accordance with EN 388:2016/ISO 13997
Relates to cut protection gloves made from materials that cause the blades to become blunt (i.e. glass and steel fibres).
Additional test procedure in accordance with ISO 13997: Determination of resistance of the glove to cutting by a sharp object through single contact under higher force.
Here, a long, straight blade is drawn once over the test piece. The minimum force required to cut through the test piece after 20 millimetres is determined in the process.
The result is given in newtons (N) and assigned to a cut protection class.
Summary of the differences between both cut-protection test methods
No correlation can be made between the two test procedures and performance rating. The glove still offers the same high level of cut protection in practice; the only change is to the standard-based classification of its performance.
As a leading manufacturer of cut-protection products, we have state-of-theart measurement technology for both standards in our own testing laboratory, and are well placed to address questions on most matters at anytime.
